Morphological Studies on the Mesenteric Artery and Its Branches in Korean

Abstract
The author has observed the variations in the pattern of ramification of the superior and inferior mesenteric arteries of 126 Korean infancy (male 59, female 67) and 20 adults (male 14, female 6). The results were as follows:
1) The Truncus coeliaco- mesentericus was observed in 2. 1%.
2) The double branches of the inferior pancreatico-duodenal artery was observed in 67.5% and it was originated from the superior mesenteric artery in 89.3%.
3) The number of the middle colic artery was one in 86.7% and two in 13.3%.
4) The origin of the middle colic artery was observed to arise from the superior mesenteric artery in 79.0, from the right colic artery in 5.6%, from the left colic artery in 1.4%, and from the
ileo-colic artery in 0.7%.
5) The number of the right colic artery was one in 27.9%, two in 12.1%.
6) The right colic arose from the superior mesenteric artery in 73.1%, from the middle colic artery in 8.5%, and from the ileo-colic artery in 6.4%.
7) In all cases, the ileo-colic artery originated from the superior mesenteric artery. In 17.0% it arose common stem with the right colic artery.
8) The number of the appendicular artery was observed one in 93.6%, two in 5.0% and three in 1.4%.
9) The most frequent origin of the appendicular artery arose from the ileo-colic artery in 40.2%. 10) In 56.5% the intestinal artery was observed from 14 to 18 in numbers.
11) The left colic artery originated from the inferior mesenteric artery in 61.9%, from the bifurcation of the sigmoid and superior rectal arteries in 15. 1%, and from the sigmoid artery in 23.0%.
12) The number of the sigmoid artery was observed one in 19.0% and two in 81.0%,
